    On behalf of myself, Joe and Laa (Leslie) a big ‘Thank You’ to all that have given so generously.

    Be it in monetary donations, helping with accommodation, meals, awhi and aroha.. We are so eternally grateful and have just been so overwhelmed by all the support given ❤️.

    We are back in NZ now, Where Laa is currently in Waikato hospital waiting to start his next round of chemo. He will do another 3 rounds before being transferred to Auckland to have a bone marrow stem transplant 💓💞.

    In between his chemo rounds, he gets to have a week or 2 break - so will be returning to Gisborne. Where he’ll enjoy catching up with everyone ❤️❤️.

    It has been a rough 36 days for him, he has been thru so much, but as anyone knows, he's strong with the willpower to push thru.

    He’s gone from not being able to walk, to now back on his feet standing tall like the Giant he is ❤️❤️.

    As Mum and Dad we are so proud and humbled by what our son has had to endure and overcome on this journey.

    To all his friends I got to meet in Brisbane;

    Thank you for everything you all have done to support Leslie in Australia for the past 5 years .. You are all truly amazing. He wouldn’t have been able to get through those 34 days without you all. You most definitely are his Brizzy WHĀNAU. ❤️❤️❤️

  • UPDATE

      7 June 2023

    We are a few days shy of a month since learning of Laa’s diagnosis.

    Mum and Dad are now both in Brisbane by Laa’s side.

    The last few weeks have been rough, seeing Laa spending much of his time in hospital in the CCU (Coronary Care Unit) ward trying to manage an infection as well as concerns with his heart, before starting chemotherapy. Since starting chemo, a few other concerns arose, which ultimately led to him being moved to ICU (Intensive Care Unit) for a number of nights.

    His condition has improved and he’s since been moved back to CCU, with the medical staff having a goal of him reaching the Cancer Ward.

    Ultimately, Laa’s goal is to return home to Aotearoa to continue treatment, recover, rejuvenate and get back to 100%.

    Some days are better than others. He’s managing to sit up and taking small steps unassisted. It’s been frustrating for Laa, but if there’s one thing we know about him, it's that he’s never been scared of putting in mahi.

    As a whānau we’d like to extend our thanks once again to everyone. All this hasn’t been without the love and support of our extended Whānau and friends from near and far. If we haven’t responded directly to your love, help, please know that we see you and are forever grateful.
