Raising funds to support Leslie Hills battle with Leukemia
Gisborne
My nephew, Leslie Hills (Laa to our whānau) is an avid sportsman, hearty rugby player, who like many others, went across the ditch to follow his dreams. There he has managed to successfully chase and accomplish just that - helping those that need it most, working as a PT.
Recently, after a week of being unable to stand, he has been dragged to the hospital by some good mates (last thing Laa would want to do is miss another day at the gym) and after numerous tests he has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
He is currently in Brisbane hospital, fighting an infection, which is causing concerns with his heart and delaying his cancer treatment.
Unfortunately he has no immediate family living in Australia, so getting his Mum and support people over there is paramount.
On top of that his expenses are already piling up and will only increase over the coming months, compounded with the fact that he won't be able to work.
This all comes at a high cost and one that our whānau currently can't cover.
Although our whānau is whakamā to ask, the wellbeing of our son, brother, nephew, uncle and moko far outweighs any shame we may feel reaching out.
So please give what you can, share where you can and have our Laa in all of your thoughts and prayers.
Leslie (Laa) is my nephew.
Cover all necessary living expenses for Leslie and his support people. Funds will be paid to Wai Hills (Leslie Hills' Mother).
A Big Thank you from us xxx 💜🩵💙💙 24 June 2023
On behalf of myself, Joe and Laa (Leslie) a big ‘Thank You’ to all that have given so generously.
Be it in monetary donations, helping with accommodation, meals, awhi and aroha.. We are so eternally grateful and have just been so overwhelmed by all the support given ❤️.
We are back in NZ now, Where Laa is currently in Waikato hospital waiting to start his next round of chemo. He will do another 3 rounds before being transferred to Auckland to have a bone marrow stem transplant 💓💞.
In between his chemo rounds, he gets to have a week or 2 break - so will be returning to Gisborne. Where he’ll enjoy catching up with everyone ❤️❤️.
It has been a rough 36 days for him, he has been thru so much, but as anyone knows, he's strong with the willpower to push thru.
He’s gone from not being able to walk, to now back on his feet standing tall like the Giant he is ❤️❤️.
As Mum and Dad we are so proud and humbled by what our son has had to endure and overcome on this journey.
To all his friends I got to meet in Brisbane;
Thank you for everything you all have done to support Leslie in Australia for the past 5 years .. You are all truly amazing. He wouldn’t have been able to get through those 34 days without you all. You most definitely are his Brizzy WHĀNAU. ❤️❤️❤️
