Supporting Leo, 13, on his journey with rare glaucoma and helping him reach a vital summit this June.
Auckland
My name is Angela, and I’m a close family friend of Leo — a brave, kind-hearted 13-year-old who has been fighting since birth.
Leo lives with congenital glaucoma and Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome, rare conditions that affect his sight. He has spent much of his life in hospitals, undergoing over 50 surgeries, including open-heart surgery. Last year, he lost vision in his left eye, but he continues to face each day with incredible courage.
What stands out most is Leo’s heart. He is gentle, grateful, and always thanks the doctors and nurses who care for him. He also shares his story to raise awareness and bring hope to other families.
His journey is ongoing, and frequent travel from Auckland to Wellington for procedures places a heavy emotional and financial strain on his family.
This June, we have a small window to get Leo to a Glaucoma Summit in San Francisco — a rare chance to connect with specialists and others on the same journey.
Funds will help with travel, accommodation, the summit, and giving Leo a special experience after so many years in hospitals.
We don’t have much time.
Thank you for supporting or sharing Leo’s story.
