We need to raise 100,000 to get our dad the treatment he needs to get rid of the cancer.

Auckland

Leroy Bellamy is a beloved Father of 6, brother, cousin, friend and uncle of many. Leroy has been working non stop from the age of 16 to the age he is now 51. He has been a solo father raising and bringing 4 of his children up from intermediate and high school. He has supported us by never missing a rugby game, always attending our kapa haka performances and encouraging us to never give up. Leroy has worked many long hard hours to support us in our schooling and at home. We love our dad.

In January Leroy went to the doctors with a sore throat, he was sent home with antibiotics, took his full course and still had a sore throat. He went back to the doctors On the 27th of February regarding his sore throat with no cold or flu like symptoms. The doctor sent him home with nothing but an appointment at the super clinic. He attended his appointment at the super clinic on the 9th of march to which the doctor said to him, it looks like cancer. The cancer was confirmed on the 20th of March as stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma with tumors growing in his mouth throat and neck.

This came as a huge shock for us (his family) as Leroy is a non-smoker, non-drinker, eats healthy and exercises regularly which lead us to think he's the last person in this world to get cancer.

Auckland Hospital has given him the only option of radiation everyday over the course of 7 weeks and 3 doses of chemotherapy with a somewhat chance of the cancer shrinking and coming straight back when the treatment is finished. The doctor also mentioned that if Leroy decides to take this treatment that he might live for Ten years. We want our dad to live for longer.

Edit * If Leroy was to go through with this treatment he would lose his taste buds, won't be able to eat solid foods and have difficulty with his speech or have hardly any speech at all. He will also face the long term effects of chemo and radiation.

The money raised will go towards an overseas treatment he wishes to take in Bangkok called Verita Life. Verita life specializes in conventional & Integrated cancer treatments. Many New Zealanders and Australians have traveled to Verita life in Bangkok to receive targeted and customised treatment for their cancer. EDIT* At verita life they will make sure that Leroy doesn't face the effects that come from chemo and radiation. Leroy has given Verita life all of the information they needed about his condition and has received a $90,000 NZD quote for six weeks of treatment, not including flights and accommodation.
