  • Decision on your generous surplus donations

    Dear friends,

We want to let you know what’s happening with the donations that you so kindly contributed to our cause.

With your amazing generosity, we ended up with more than enough money to pay the bills from our lawyer and hydrologist.

What to do with the surplus..? One option was to offer the extra donations back, but we also considered using the funds to complete more of the hydrology work, to prepare for something unforeseen.

After much thought, we have decided we want to offer the last group of donors a choice.

If you made a donation to our cause on or after 31 May, (the date on which we had enough to cover our costs) we would like to offer you the choice of a refund or to have your donation passed on to Greenpeace. Givealittle staff have kindly offered to facilitate the refunds for us so please contact Givealittle (helpdesk@givealittle.co.nz) by July 7th if that’s your preferred option.

Please note that if you made a donation before or on 30 May your donation will be used to cover our legal and hydrology expenses, as you intended.

If you have any concerns or questions about your donation and these changes, please contact Givealittle (helpdesk@givealittle.co.nz) by July 7th.

Once again, thank you all so much for your generosity, solidarity and passion! Your donations have supported Little River Eco Collective to oppose feedlots in Kaituna Valley.

    With warmest wishes

    Andrea and Annelies,

On behalf of Little River Eco Collective

      7 June 2023

Thanks so very much for your great generosity in responding to our call for help; for your words of encouragement and financial support! We are celebrating with relief the fact that this particular battle is over, so will be closing this page very soon. It's wonderful to know that we are connected to such a community of caring, thoughtful and compassionate people, who will respond with real action and commitment when the moment demands practical and positive steps together. We may be in touch again - hopefully with more good news next time! And please note - if you've kept your email private, please consider contacting us so that we can thank you properly. • Breaking news! Application withdrawn! We opposed this and won!

      6 June 2023

Environment Canterbury has announced today that the Wongan Hills application to build feedlot barns in Kaituna Valley, Banks Peninsula has been withdrawn!!

We're celebrating - and we thank you wholeheartedly for your amazing, generous and unstinting support, which has contributed to our win. We hope this means that future applications for feedlots on Banks Peninsula will be unlikely.

It's clear that no hearing is required now, but we still have costs to cover for work done thus far. We will let you know more when there is more certainty about the numbers. Thank you again for your wonderful support!

  • Help! New clarity about hydrologist fee for expert advice

      23 May 2023

Thanks so much everyone for your generous support, and for your words of encouragement. Your support and solidarity means the world to us.

And we will need your backing all the more because now our upcoming costs are clearer. In addition to the lawyer's fee, we will need to pay for the expert advice of a hydrologist, who will provide evidence about the flooding and climate risks on our behalf.

So - from all of us - thank you! AND we still need your help to spread the word and spread the financial burden of the hearing process. Please tell your friends and whanau about our appeal.

We will keep on keeping watch over the at-risk taonga in our part of the world - the animals, the water, the climate... and we will keep on talking about these things with our communities.

On behalf of Little River Eco Collective.
