Help Mars Finally Feel Comfortable in His Own Skin

$5,270 of $5,000 goal
Given by 37 generous donors in 8 weeks

Our brave Mars is so close to gender-affirming surgery. Help us raise the final $5,000 to make this life-changing step possible.

Canterbury

My 20-year-old nephew Mars is preparing for gender-affirming top surgery.

For many years Mars has lived with the deep discomfort of not feeling at home in his own body, often accompanied by body dysmorphia that has affected everyday moments many of us take for granted.

Mars began his transition at 14 - along the way he has faced health challenges and debilitating pain, yet he continues to move forward with incredible resilience and determination.

He was a very active child, including racing BMX and dreams of returning to an active lifestyle once he feels fully comfortable in himself. Mars studied animals and earned his Certificate in Animal Management, is a talented amateur photographer, and hopes one day to study Linguistics at university and travel.

Over the past few months he has shown incredible dedication preparing for surgery, improving his health, losing 8kg, and committing to strength training.

In Mars’ own words:

"My name is Mars and I have been dreaming of this moment ever since I transitioned. I am so grateful to the support I get from my friends & family, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to take such a big step towards thriving as my true self! I really appreciate any contributions, even if it's just sharing this link around or checking out my Instagram. Thank you for your support :)"

I am Mars' Aunty and our entire family have watched Mars grow up carrying a heavy burden. It takes tremendous strength for a person to share that the body they were born into doesn’t reflect who they truly are. We are in awe of his courage.

Use of funds

Mars, is preparing for gender-affirming top surgery — a life-changing step in his journey to live authentically as the man he knows himself to be. The cost of this surgery is significant. Mars is now within reach of his goal, with around $5,000 to go.

Mars just wanted to share how deeply grateful he is by the outpouring of support.

It’s honestly incredible to see that over $5,000 has been raised in just one week—something that truly exceeded all expectations!!

Every single contribution, message, and share means so much, and it’s a powerful reminder of how generous and kind people can be.

Thank you all for being part of this journey and for making such a meaningful impact.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
