Help Matilda beat OSA

  • On the road to recovery

4 days ago our brave little human had her life changing surgery. People have asked "is it different now? Is there a change?"

The truth is there will be a change but we haven't seen it yet as her recovery is a few weeks long.

It's been a bumpy 4 days with Matilda requiring oxygen after surgery, constant up and downs through the night for pain relief. We were told day 4 to 7 would be part of the worst part of recovery.... we underestimated just how "worse" it could be... until early hours of the morning every 2-3 hours on the dot her waking up screaming in pain.

We underestimated how long we had to be in Auckland for... originally 5 days post op... unfortunately we are still a wee while until we are aloud to head home. We have to keep a close eye on fevers, potential infections or bleeding. Bleeding if severe can lead to more surgery.

So for now we cruise, we rest and we keep our munchkin occupied and cheer her up where and when possible without her over doing it, while we get a taste of city life and miss the farm life more and more.

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated towards Matildas surgery, we couldn't have done it without you.

Matilda is booked to have surgery on the 15th of February, we are excited but also extremely nervous. This will be life changing for her and us however there is also the risk of Matilda needing oxygen after surgery.

For now we just cross everything, get prepared in every avenue including a girls arvo of shopping for clothing that will be more surgery friendly.

We will update once she's had surgery and recovering.

Thank you go everyone that has shared, donated and supported us to help Matilda beat OSA. We will beat it!

It's been a while since we updated the page.

We still need to atleast raise $5200 so that we can go ahead with private surgery on the 13th of February which is pretty much 2 months away!

Not only have we been working to beat OSA for Matilda, but we've also had constant audiology appointments where Matilda was fitted for a hearing aid. Thankfully hearing aids are fully funded for Matilda but the hope is it will help her hear better and help improve her speech.

Her surgery for OSA will change her life and ours hugely especially at night time with sleep. Matilda will no longer wake in panics trying to breathe but she may actually sleep through the night rather then up and down constantly all night, having to calm and settle her back to sleep.

Having her Tonsils and Adenoids out will ensure she can breathe properly if she's on her back sleeping. (Pretty near impossible to keep her on her side at night!)

However by also removing her Adenoids this will also help improve her hearing and by adding grommets in also helps improve her ear issues.

One simple surgery will change ALOT for Matilda. Not only will it beat her OSA other parts of it will help improve her hearing.

She's been through so much in her short 3 and a half years of life, so if you can please share her link or even donate $1 it changes everything for her and for us.

    Let's beat OSA!

  • World premmie day

      18 November 2023

Yesterday the 17th of November was world premature day.

Matilda and I got our bake on over a couple of days and also arranged some other goodies for us to take into our local Neonatal unit.

Yesterday we got to see some of the nurses that helped us on out nicu journey and we were able to give to families that are currently on the Rollercoaster of a life time.

Ever since Matilda came off her oxygen our family has baked for world premmie day, people did it regularly for families like ourselves when we were in nicu and neonatal and we love to be able to do the same.

Now is your chance to help our family by donating to our daughters surgery to beat OSA, help keep her off oxygen and to ensure we are able to still bake yearly for families like ours.

    Help Matilda beat OSA

Even by sharing the link helps spread the word or even better donate even a $1 today.

We still have a long way to go but we are blown away by the support so far.

We are so greatful to everyone that has donated so far. Between your wonderful donations on givealittle and other donations we are officially 1/4 of the way!!

Matildas official surgery through private hospital is booked for the 13th of February 2024 HOWEVER if we can raise the funds sooner we will be able to get her brought forward to January.

The last few nights have been rather rough for Matilda and sleep. Unfortunately it's near impossible to keep her off her back which is when her airway gets blocked, so then she wakes up in a huge panic and it takes a lot of cuddles and time to resettle her. We look forward to her not having to experience this again.

So please help us spread the word, share the givealittle link and let's help Matilda beat OSA!
