Help Matilda get the surgery she needs sooner then later! Help her beat OSA
Taranaki, New Plymouth District
Our beautiful, cheeky, animal loving girl was born at 25 weeks who has bet all the odds as a micro premmie.
She's battled NEC, heart ductus issues, jaundice, she's had lazer eye surgery, hearing issues and also chronic lung disease which she almost died from 6 times. Matilda spent 5 and a half months in nicu and neonatal and came home on home oxygen. In Dec 2021 she finally came off home oxygen.
Matilda has recently been diagnosed with OSA - obstructive sleep apnea as her tonsils are to large due to her health battles and block her airway at night time when she rolls onto her back. She wakes panicked and scared from not breathing. She urgently needs tonsils and adenoids removed and they would like to put in grommets for other health reasons.
Anyone who knows Matilda knows shes determined, mighty, full of smiles and laughter.
Even though this needs to urgently happen for Matilda our public hospitals wait list is up to 18 months long. So we have seeked a private specialist who can operate in the next few months! But... it comes at a HUGE cost.
Unfortunately due to her early start at life no health insurance would cover Matilda so we are seeking the help of the public to help Matilda beat OSA and breathe properly at night time and ensure our beautiful 3 year old can start having a good night's sleep and get the sleep she deserves and the breathing she fought so hard to do without oxygen assistance.
Let's beat OSA and keep Matilda off oxygen, let's help her win this battle.
Matilda is my 3 year old daughter.
Any funds raised will go towards Matilda to have private surgery sooner then later. And any extra health care needed.
On the road to recovery 19 February 2024
4 days ago our brave little human had her life changing surgery. People have asked "is it different now? Is there a change?"
The truth is there will be a change but we haven't seen it yet as her recovery is a few weeks long.
It's been a bumpy 4 days with Matilda requiring oxygen after surgery, constant up and downs through the night for pain relief. We were told day 4 to 7 would be part of the worst part of recovery.... we underestimated just how "worse" it could be... until early hours of the morning every 2-3 hours on the dot her waking up screaming in pain.
We underestimated how long we had to be in Auckland for... originally 5 days post op... unfortunately we are still a wee while until we are aloud to head home. We have to keep a close eye on fevers, potential infections or bleeding. Bleeding if severe can lead to more surgery.
So for now we cruise, we rest and we keep our munchkin occupied and cheer her up where and when possible without her over doing it, while we get a taste of city life and miss the farm life more and more.
