Help Matty access medical treatment to fight cancer!

  • Please take care when reading this update.

      7 June 2023

Although we knew the reality Matt was facing, I never contemplated that I would have to write such an update... And I can't stress how much I hate writing these words, but our boy has died.

I will post again when I have more information. However, tonight I would like to propose that the money we have raised here be gifted to Matt's whānau to help towards the cost for a funeral.

If anyone objects to using their donation in this way, please email me - there will be no judgement.

Funds will be paid to Matt's EPA, Ava Ferguson.

I wish I could find the appropriate words to convey the gratitude I feel, knowing that Matty was able to experience the kindness he has been shown here. But my heart and my head hurts too much to do any kind of justice tonight...

Thank you for everything... Take care of yourselves and each other, and please reach out if you need support 💗

  • Update - Matt is 9 days into his treatment, and we are extending the givealittle!

      28 May 2023

Thanks to your collective support we have smashed the 7k goal in five days.

But as we know, this is just the beginning - Matty will need to come up with $6,500 every month for the rest of his life.

This is an obscene amount of money and added stress at a time when he needs to focus on his health first.

Before Matt got sick, he was a successful small business owner contributing to the vibrancy of Cuba St, and an important member of Aotearoa's live music industry. He had to close his businesses when cancer took hold, and has now spent his lifes-savings on staying alive.

In light of the medication being an ongoing cost, we are extending this fundraiser. Givealittle releases donations once per month, which means that any money raised will help alleviate the stress of trying to afford his medication every 4 weeks. Meanwhile, we will continue to search for alternative means of funding for his RET-inhibitor. But as it stands, people power is the only hope we have right now to ensure Matt has access to the treatment he needs.

Many have asked how they can help in other ways, and right now the most impact we can have outside of donation support, is simply to share this page and help get Matt's story out there.

The world is full of opportunities, so lets make sure he doesn't miss out on anything else that could save his life!

Ngā mihi maioha! You have been incredible, and as sick as he feels right now, Matt is exceptionally grateful for your kindness - we all are x
