Helping Maureen travel home to South Africa to say goodbye to her mum and support her dad during a heartbreaking time.
Waikato
At the beginning of June this year, our lives were turned upside down.
Maureen’s beloved mum and my 2nd mum, who lives in South Africa, suddenly fell violently ill.
At first, doctors believed she needed a pacemaker—but an MRI revealed something far more serious: a life-threatening brain tumor. An emergency operation was scheduled in an attempt to save her life. Tragically, the procedure was extremely high-risk, and Maureen’s mum never regained consciousness.
Now, almost three months later, the most recent scans have confirmed our worst fears—she is not expected to recover. We are absolutely heartbroken.
Our deepest wish is for Maureen to be able to fly back to South Africa to say goodbye to her mum, and support her dad through this incredibly painful time.
Sadly, due to significant financial struggles over the past two years, including job loss, we cannot afford the cost of flights or travel. I’ve tried every possible avenue for support, including applying for a loan, but we've hit a wall.
Some of our friends have asked if we would open a fundraising page—so we are now turning to the kindness of others, in the hope that together, we can make this journey possible for Maureen. Any donation—no matter how small—will help get her closer to being with her mum one last time and standing beside her dad when he needs her most.
Thank you for reading and for any support you can give. Even just sharing this page would mean the world to us.
With gratitude and love,
Cronje
Maureen is my wife.
Funds raised will go towards flight tickets, loss off income and travel expenses.
THANK YOU! 26 August 2025
Dear friends and family,
We would like to extend a MASSIVE thank you for all of your generous donations.
Maureen was deeply touched and emotional when I showed her this page. Your kindness and support mean the world to her.
Given her limited leave from work and other commitments, Maureen has decided to remain in New Zealand for now. She plans to travel when she receives word that her mum is in her final moments or has passed—so she can be there to support her sister and dad during the bereavement and funeral.
This may still be some time away, and we will ensure all funds are safely kept until they are needed.
With gratitude,
Cronje
