This page is to help the Mathews Family raise the funds needed for various treatments needed for Maximus in his battle against cancer.
Mount Maunganui, Tauranga
On February 23rd, 2024, Maximus was diagnosed with a brain tumour - a Radiation-induced Glioblastoma, in his right frontal lobe. Lisa and Chris explored all possible options in New Zealand for treatment, including radiation and chemotherapy, and opted for a successful tumour resection in Madrid in late March. However, in April, his latest MRI results show that the tumour is growing again.
Maximus will undergo radiation for the next 6 weeks at Starship Hospital, and the family is currently investigating both NZ-based and overseas clinical trials, as the next step. With a diagnosis like his, experimental therapies become the standard of care, as well as more traditional approaches like radiation and chemo.
Maximus (Mussy, known as Maxi Boy to his classmates) has two younger siblings, Mathias and Summer, who adore him, and his parents are one in a million. They've already helped him fight through both Leukamiea as a 3-year-old, and then a relapse at age 5, which he overcame with help from Mathias, who gave his bone marrow in a life-saving transplant.
Maximus has been in remission from cancer for the past 7 years and has grown into a remarkable young man, full of kindness, and creativity, with a brilliant sense of humour.
The Mathews family is so grateful for every single contribution, and your prayers are deeply valued too.
We have known the Mathews Family for over 20 years, and they are close family friends.
Chris and Lisa are Maximus's parents.
