I spent 4 months sleeping at the kitchen table just to get through the pain. Please help me now achieve my goals in life
Waikato
I am 27 years old, and up until a few years ago, I was full of life, motivated, and hard working. I then suffered a herniated disk which became worse over time. The pain I was in was indescribable. I was taking multiple pain killers just to slightly dull the pain but even so, I could not do the most simplest of tasks. I couldn't move, I couldn't lay down, I couldn't sit, or even stand without being close to tears in pain. I couldn't even go to the toilet by myself. The pain was so severe that I had to sleep sitting up at the kitchen table for 4 months as this was the position that was the least painful. If I sneezed or coughed, I would pass out. I started seeing an acupuncturist, I had multiple cortisone injections in my back, but still nothing would help. Over time I had 2 high risk surgeries to fix the problem.
The main picture on this page shows the metal now holding my back together. I can now move around, not be on heavy pain killers and sleep laying down, but I am still in pain daily. I can no longer do the things that I used to such as work my physical job that I had to leave, or any physical jobs. I cannot lift heavy objects, or sit for long periods of time. I love fishing but the risk of catching a big fish means I cannot risk putting the strain on my back. Even without these things, my movement is restricted, making it difficult to even put my socks on or do up my shoe laces.
Looking to the future, I would love to pursue my interest in medicine. I have done a lot of reading with my time away from the workforce and now I would love to take a step towards studying towards being a medical professional, perhaps as a paramedic. However, with no wages coming in, I feel like I have an impossible task ahead of me. I have regular costs that need to contribute towards such as travel to and from medical appointments out of town, doctors visits, prescriptions, raising my daughter and general living expenses. I would very much appreciate it if anyone out there would donate towards my goal of being happier, studying, and eventually returning to the workforce.
I will use the funds to pay for study costs and medical costs. The medical costs include travel out of town to appointments to see specialists as where I live there is no public transport.
