A student who attends Goldfields Special School is currently not able to attend school. This student comes to school from Thames to Paeroa. Due to a drunk driver hitting Mum's car (luckily no one was hurt), she is no longer able to get him to school and is without transport. Mum is unable to afford a new car and the drunk driver will not pay out.
For parents with special needs children, sometimes school is their only respite. Caring for a special needs child is both physically and emotionally challenging - the school day relieves that pressure and allows parents to have a break and get things done that we all need to during the day.
Due to other circumstances and behavioural issues, this student already attends school part time and needs to be transported by his Mum - this makes the time he is at school even more valuable for Mum's well being. Mums situation is even more challenging, due to the fact that she suffered a stroke a few years ago and has her own disabilities and medical challenges.
This is a Mum who is on her own and is 100% dedicated to the care, wellbeing and protection of her child.
We value this family greatly and want to support them by fundraising for a new vehicle.
Staff at the school he attends.
All money raised will go towards a new vehicle for this student and his Mother, any excess will be spent on either insurance or an account at a mechanic.
