Help me raise funds for brain surgery

    Surgery was completed in August and the Doctors managed to remove 90% of the tumour. My mom has completed her radiation therapy and is now on some chemo tablets and we will know how successful the radiation therapy was by 19 December.

    The hope of the surgery and treatments is to give my mom a bit more time to enjoy her life and to prevent the cancer from spreading to the rest of her brain and to stop it from affecting the functioning of the rest of her body. Unfortunately it is a glioblastoma, which is incurable, so the best we can hope for is more time for her to enjoy the life she has and for her overall health to be taken care of during this time. Of course, nothing is impossible for God, so our trust and hope lies in Him and we thank Him daily for the blessings during this time - as well as thanking all of the donors who enabled us to raise enough funds to cover the shortfall from the medical aid to have the surgery done.

  • She's Out!

    My mom has been discharged from hospital and has been recovering at "home away from home" - a beachfront apartment near my sister's home, generously offered to us by a friend. She has been enjoying the fresh sea air and sunshine and will be visiting the Dr in the next week or so to find out what steps are next in regards to radiation therapy to get rid of the bit of tumour that was too dangerous to remove surgically.

    We are so thankful to God for guiding the surgeon's hands and for blessing my mom with amazing nurses and staff to help her during her recovery in hospital. And we are so grateful to all of you who have given financially and been supporting us in thoughts and prayers through this. We know there is still some way to go on this journey with my mom, but we are hopeful that a better quality of life is achievable with the tumour now removed.

  • Post-Op

    My mom’s surgery went well, although she has been in ICU for the past couple of days. We will need to cover any extra days that she stays in hospital as the original cost estimate only included 5 days in hospital where 3 of those was for ICU. Any further contributions on this page would really help to cover these costs as we’ve had to pay upfront to get her admitted into hospital and they won’t release her until any outstanding amounts are paid.

    Please help to share and donate in this home stretch of this fund as this page closes on 27 August!

  • Surgery scheduled

    Hi everyone. My mom and her husband has travelled to Ballito yesterday. She will be admitted into hospital on Sunday afternoon and the surgery will take place on Monday. Thanks to all your generous donations we’ve secured enough funds to be able to ensure she gets admitted to hospital as her medical aid only covers 60% of the fees. We will still need to pay the Dr fees after the surgery, but should be able to claim the hospital fees back from her gap cover insurance after the surgery and use this to pay the Dr. God has really been good in providing what we need when we need it and we want to thank everyone who has given so far. Please pray for a successful surgery with no complications and a good outcome for my mom. Your generosity, prayers and encouragement has really helped during this time.

    Hi everyone! We’ve received confirmation from the doctors that my mom’s surgery has been scheduled for the 14th of August. We still have no clarity on exactly how much her medical aid will be covering so we still need to continue getting as much funds together as possible, so please continue sharing and giving as you can!

  • Prawn and Wine Festival - Ballito (update provided by my sister in SA, Karien vd Wal)

    What an amazing day last weekend at the Fundraiser held by local restaurants in Ballito, South Africa, to help raise funds for my mom's surgery!!

    Three local restaurants came together at the Ballito Village to offer a "Prawn-and-Wine Festival"

    As a family, we would like to say thank you to Brett Michielin from Mozambik restaurant, Trevor from Al-Pascatore Restaurant and Diego from Conchilla. Thank you to all your staff and everyone that helped with making the amazing food, the planning and the preparation to make the day such a huge success!

    Thank you to Seema and her staff from Sables animal shelter who helped with the sales and raffles and prizes and thank you to everyone who sponsored a prize or gave a donation. This day was a success because of all your hard work, open hearts and generosity.

    It just proofs that Ballito is the best community ever.. coming together and getting things done once again.

    There is no way that we can ever thank the BALLITO PEOPLE enough for what they did to help our mom and our family in raising the funds needed to get her brain surgery. Thank you to everyone who bought at the auction...especially Tarryn Coetzee who almost bought up the whole auction 😀😂❤️

    Most importantly we want to thank God for making all this possible and bringing all these people together and making this a beautiful and memorable day... ❤️

    What an amazing response so far - thank you! We've had some restaurants in Ballito offer to hold a fundraising event and auction over next weekend to help raise funds after seeing this campaign online on my sister's Facebook page! So amazing and we are so extremely grateful! Please keep sharing this as we just never know who might see it and open their hearts to give or organize something to help this cause!! Thank you all so much for your prayers, generosity, sharing and caring! It is all so greatly appreciated!
