A bag theft took my ID, cards, phone, and savings, and despite clear evidence, nothing was recovered
Manurewa East, Auckland
I never thought I would need to ask for help like this, but after trying everything I can think of, I’m left with no other option.
My bag was stolen from my car while shopping at Bunnings Takanini. I had just finished loading my shopping and stepped away briefly to return the trolley. In that short moment, someone took my bag from inside the car and ran away.
Inside the bag was everything important I owned: my driver’s licence and ID, bank cards, bus card, fuel card, my phone, and a large amount of cash I had saved to buy a second-hand car. Those savings represented months of planning and hope for moving forward.
I reported the theft immediately and followed every possible step. There is CCTV footage, card transactions showing in my bank records, and I was even able to track my phone’s location and movement for a period of time. The evidence was fresh and clear, and it felt like the thief could have been found quickly. Despite this, the police have taken no meaningful action, and it now appears the person responsible has simply gotten away.
I am currently unemployed and actively looking for work, and losing my ID, cards, and savings has made daily life and job searching incredibly difficult. I have genuinely tried everything I can on my own.
I’m asking for help to replace my lost ID and essential cards, cover basic living costs, and recover from the savings I lost. Any support or sharing would mean more than I can express. Thank you for reading and for any help you can give.
Funds will go toward replacing lost ID, essential cards, my phone, basic living and transport costs, and recovering part of the savings stolen from me.
