After 5 years retired, Julian has been selected to represent New Zealand again - help get him to Rotterdam!
Albany, Auckland
My name is Julian, Twenty-four years ago, I left Argentina with a hockey stick and an opportunity. I moved to New Zealand on a Special Talent Visa as a goalkeeper — and this country became home.
Over the past two decades, I’ve represented at club, league, national and international level, proudly wearing the fern and earning medals along the way. Hockey shaped my journey here.
Five years ago, I retired to focus on my family and our business, New Brew Cafe, Bar & Restaurant, which I’ve owned and operated since 2012. Like many small businesses, the years since COVID have been challenging, with most income going back into keeping the doors open.
This year, at 53, I returned to the game. I trained, trialled, and have been selected for the Men’s 50–55s team at the Hockey Masters World Cup in Rotterdam this July.
This will be my third Masters World Cup representing New Zealand — something I never take for granted.
The tournament is largely self-funded, with costs of around $10,000 NZD covering flights, accommodation, registration and preparation.
Any support, big or small, would mean a great deal to me and my family.
New Zealand gave me an opportunity 24 years ago. Representing it again on the world stage is a true honour.
The $10,000 will go towards:
- Flights and Gear transport
- Accomodation
- Tournament Fees
- Uniform
- Training costs
Thank you all for your donations! 15 March 2026
Hello everyone, just updating to say thank you all so much for your generous donations. Before I wasn't so sure if I would be able to play for the World Cup again, but all your generous donations encouraged me to go ahead with the tournament. Me and my family really appreciate every single donation made so far to help me achieve this lifetime of an opportunity.
I will make you all proud at the World Cup, no doubt.
You all mean a lot to me, majority donating here at the restaurant - I am so grateful to all your patronage and support from all these years and now for this exciting year.
Much love Julian
