I have been accepted to study my Master of Fine Arts (Musical Theatre) in Boston but need your help getting there!
Manawatu / Whanganui
Hi Everyone,
My name is Tyrell Beck and I am 22 years old, based in Palmerston North but originally from Taumarunui, New Zealand. I have been involved in Musical Theatre since a very young age and it has always been my dream and passion to pursue this. This become closer to a reality when moving to Palmerston North where I have been involved in 13 local shows in the past 4 years, being cast in many amazing lead roles such as Fiyero Tigelaar (Wicked), Bert (Mary Poppins), Seymour Krelborn (Little Shop of Horrors), Drew Boley (Rock of Ages), Warren (Ordinary Days), Edward Lyons (Blood Brothers), Skimbleshanks (Cats), Claude Bukowski (Hair) and Eddie (Mamma Mia), as well as involvement in many community events, all whilst completing a degree in Food Technology. This has enabled me to build up my resume with award winning lead roles and musicals I never thought I would have the chance to be a part of! Because of this, I know a career in professional musical theatre is something I want to pursue!
This past year I decided that it was time to get serious about this and applied to study overseas at one of the top schools in the USA. I thought, may as well aim high to achieve the best. This has paid off and I have been accepted to study my Master of Fine Arts (Musical Theatre) at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee in Boston, Massachusetts in the USA! This is ranked extremely highly amongst the theatre community in the USA and is highly selective, accepting only 10-12 students each year globally! It also currently has the 6th highest number of graduates on Broadway showing the quality of the school and the faculty! It is a 2 year intensive program with a focus on preparing graduates for the industry. If you wish to know anymore, check out their website: https://bostonconservatory.berklee.edu
However, with this excitement comes the hefty expenses of studying overseas with one years tuition costing over $60,000 NZD, let alone moving and living half way across the globe. I have received a merit based scholarship from the Conservatory itself of $10,000 USD p/a and am applying for other scholarships and grants whilst saving and scrounging to get the funds together, however I can't do it by myself! That's where this page comes in and if you can help in anyway to make this dream happen, that would be appreciated so much. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to view this page and hear a small snippet of my story.
This money will go towards tuition and fees associated with the course as well as living expenses and moving costs to get me to Boston.
Tuition is the biggest cost at around $45,280 USD p/a
Housing is around $13,850 USD p/a
