To help provide financial support with Mela's rehabilitation.
Auckland
Our beautiful Mela has been dealing with some pretty major health challenges over the last few weeks and it’s added a lot of stress to the McLeod family both emotionally and financially. It has been hard seeing such a healthy girl become so unwell suddenly. She is experiencing major damage to her thoracic nerve which is causing her to jerk constantly. This causes her some pain and makes her incredibly exhausted. The best treatment option is intensive rehab which requires daily, 2 -hour sessions at a location 50minutes away from their home.
We have been asked by many people what they can do to help and so this page has been set up as a way to support this amazing family over the next wee while to hopefully help lessen both the emotional and financial load. Love Georgia, Gen, Peta and Ju (the aunties)
Gen and I are two of Mela's "Aunties" and part of the Mcleod family support network.
The funds will help support Mela's family with her rehabilitation costs and other associated costs including travel expenses, physio appointments, and any other appointments required to get Mela back on her feet.
An update on Moo 19 October 2020
Hello everyone!
Because of the support on this page, The Mcleods have been able to pay for all the testing and physio over the long 17 weeks since Mela’s injury. She has made progress but as the experts say the progress is slow as with all major nerve damage injuries.
Mela had an orthopedic consultation this week which confirmed that this complex problem needs input from neurologists, medical consultants who specialize in movement disorders, and of course, physiotherapy.
Unfortunately, because Mela’s problem was initially misdiagnosed, her parents have had to seek help within the private sector. This help has included doctors’ referrals for an MRI and CT scan which they have had to pay for.
Seventeen weeks of agony and heartbreak watching their daughter’s life change completely.
The family is trying to survive on one salary as Tiff has resigned from her (day) job. Well into the night, Tiff creates art in an effort to help with ongoing costs.
With the news that further investigations are required and despite the generosity of Flexa Clinic, and the fact that the physiotherapy is partially covered by ACC, the financial burden is huge. Added to the cost of treatment is the cost of transport.
Mela puts in an incredible effort...but she is SO tired.
Thank you for your support. Please tell your networks etc so they can help this family do all that they can to get Mela back to the life she loved.
Love Gen & Georgia (The Aunties) xx
