Help Mikayla get stem cell treatment to put her MS into remission permanently!!
Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland
My name is Mikayla. I'm 31 years old and from West Auckland. I was officially diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS) in 2024, though I began experiencing symptoms when I was 25.
I'm currently undergoing six-weekly infusions—a rigorous treatment to manage my active MS, which includes multiple lesions on both my brain and spinal cord.
I've spent countless hours researching alternative ways to combat my MS, and stem cell transplant therapy stands out as the most promising option—one that could truly change my life. Unfortunately, this treatment is not available in New Zealand, not even privately. My current options are India, Australia, or Mexico, all of which come with significant costs.
This decision hasn’t come lightly. There are many things I still want to achieve in life—one of which is completing all 10 of New Zealand’s Great Walks (I've completed 3 so far). Hiking has become increasingly difficult due to my latest disability caused by MS. But I’m determined not to let this condition dictate the course of my life. I’m ready to take back control.
I’m fortunate to have a wonderful family who fully support my decision and will stand by me in whatever way they can.
Medical, travel and living costs throughout treatment.
Zap Gap week 10 August 2025
Zap Gap week is a real thing. For most people with Multiple Sclerosis have a zap gap week where just before our next infusions, fatigue hits hard. From the outside people would just say get an earlier night or just get up and start moving but reality is I could get 12 hours sleep in zap gap week and still struggle to get out of bed. It can get to the point where if I shut my eyes I would happily sleep for another 12 hours. MS has many symptoms that people dont always see. Thank you to everyone who has donated and listened to my story this far.
Besides Zap Gap week, I got to spend sunday with some amazing Whanau who i havent seen in a long time. Makes you realise how much you miss people you dont see often.
Have a great week everyone
