Help Mike Access Life‑Saving CAR T-cell therapy

  • Back home

      21 June 2026

Our time in the Chinese medical system in Shanghai was an eye-opening experience.

Car-t therapy is amazing - in terms technology and what can be done to the human body.  After a bunch of tests, my t-cells were harvested and sent to Beijing for genetic re-programming.  I then had a week of chemo and radiotherapy before my newly trained cells were re-infused. I had a fever for four days which meant things were working with expansion raising to 34% of total t-cells.  Almost immediately my myeloma markers started to come down, in fact to ‘normal’ levels, meaning the t-cells were doing their thing and attacking cancer.  On discharge from Liquan, doctors did a bone marrow biopsy (ouch!) and they couldn't find a trace of disease.

The final two weeks was waiting for final check up's.  We did some touristy things around Shanghai - which is an amazing and beautiful city - and rested up.

It's great to be back home and in summary, my disease is currently 'suppressed'.

Finaly - and most importantly - I want to extend a big thank you from me, Nicky and my girls for your support to help make this happen.

Both Mike & I have been blown away by the level of support you have all given us. There have been many tears reading everyone’s messages. Our goal of getting treatment in China is now becoming a reality.
