Please help Moeroa get the treatment and medical support she needs to get her on her feet again
Auckland
For those of you who know Moeroa, you will know that she is a very beautiful, strong, intelligent young woman who wont take no for an answer. She is a very loving sister, daughter, aunty and cousin. Moeroa is caring and has so much passion for her island, her culture and her sports.
Moeroa is 20 yrs old and is a second year student at Auckland University. She is also a current member of the Cook Islands National Womens Football team for the Cook Islands and is the youngest player ever to represent her country at 14 years old.
On Friday 4th September, while driving home, Moeroa was involved in a very serious motor vehicle accident which has now changed her life forever. Moeroa spent a week in the Cook Islands hospital before being referred to Middlemore Hospital in New Zealand, accompanied by her parents for further treatment and medical assistance.
Moeroa has obtained very serious injuries to her spinal cord which has left her paralyzed in the lower half of her body. She will need the support and financial stability to help her gain her strength to be able to walk again. Moeroa will need to undergo countless physiotherapy sessions, rehabilitation and also mental and emotional support to get her back on her feet again. The surgeons have informed Moeroa and her parents that the recovery period will be a very long time and it is unknown how or when she will regain her feeling to the lower half of her body.
Throughout this time, Moeroa has remained very strong and positive. She is such a brave young woman and is looking ahead on the road to recovery.
