Please help mum get this life changing treatment

  • Speech therapy

      12 August 2025

As the government only fund a certain amount of speech therapy, we had to find our own.

They funded 12 visits (even though the therapist was sick for half and mum was the one who missed out) we found students studying to become speech therapist at Auckland University who do 8 weeks of therapy once a week.

We are currently waiting for it to start next month. Mums speech is still very limited but we try everyday.

Here’s mum after her 2nd surgery.

This is after her first craniectomy.

She was in hospital for a couple months and just like we did with our dad, us kids moved in and made sure mum was never left alone.

    Mum has global aphasia.

A lot of people, we tell but they still don’t understand. So here is what it means:

Global aphasia is a disorder caused by damage to the parts of your brain that control language. A person with global aphasia may only be able to produce and understand a handful of words. Often, they can't read or write. The most common causes of global aphasia are: stroke.

Mum can only say a handful of words and her main words are “Fank you”.

We try everyday and get her to say some extra words but she struggles to remember how to say certain words.

Mum cannot have a conversation with you at all.
