Fundraising for a life-changing medical treatment for our mum
Auckland
We are reaching out for financial assistance to help cover the costs of life-changing medical treatment for our mum, who suffered a Left MCA ischemic stroke on July 8th, 2024. After successfully removing the blood clot, complications led to the removal of 40% of her skull and additional surgeries, including a 3D titanium implant in February 2025.
Since the stroke, mum faces significant challenges. She has lost function in her right hand, has limited use of her right arm, and now struggles with aphasia and apraxia. While we have explored local treatments, we have discovered a specialized program in Florida offering advanced care that could significantly improve her quality of life. This program involves two injections of the anti-TNF drug etanercept this year, costing $15,000 NZD each, with two additional injections needed next year.
The cost for this treatment for this year including, accomodation and flights is approx $35,000 NZD, which is beyond our means. We are asking for any help you can provide, whether through donations or spreading the word to help us reach our goal. Your support will make a profound impact on our mum’s recovery and future.
We deeply appreciate your kindness, generosity, and consideration. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
Janeane is my mum. Funds will be released to my sister Stephanie who has set up a separate account for mum.

Speech therapy 12 August 2025
As the government only fund a certain amount of speech therapy, we had to find our own.
They funded 12 visits (even though the therapist was sick for half and mum was the one who missed out) we found students studying to become speech therapist at Auckland University who do 8 weeks of therapy once a week.
We are currently waiting for it to start next month. Mums speech is still very limited but we try everyday.
