Raising funds to help my daughter be seen/assessed privately for Autism and other challenges.

Nelson / Tasman

My girl Olivia who is 10 had an official diagnosis of ADHD-inattentive under the public health system, this diagnosis took FOUR years!

There is query (highly likely) we have SPD(sensory processing disorder) ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and PDA (pathological demand avoidance).

Right now CAMHS (child adolescent mental health services) discharged us and referred onto pediatrics where We were told the Wait is up to 1 year, despite referrals from GP, letter of support by social workers, me ringing desperate, we are triaged NON URGENT!!!

Our system is severely broken, under resourced and stretched out beyond capabilities. Devastatingly an ADHD diagnosis alone constitutes no physical support or funding, but with an ASD diagnosis there is ample support and funding for respite, sensory equipment and much much more!

My girls is struggling severely she herself is becoming broken and spiraling, as a mum I feel helpless and devastated for her, I am fighting so hard and hitting a brick wall every time!!

Our last resort is to go private, with this comes HUGE costs. I'm on 1 income living week to week, I cannot get loans and I have no family to help financially nor hold anything of value, I have tried!

I'm desperate to get my girl the help she needs so here I am asking the people of NZ and worldwide for their warming generosity to help fundraise the cost to get my daughter seen by one of NZ leading pediatricians Dr Garth Smith.

Every little bit helps! Please 🙏 and THANKYOU

Lulus update  8 May 2024

Just a little update, I will be closing the page as we are going to use the funds to get her initial assessment done now and then figure out a new plan to get the ASD assessment. I can't thank those who donated enough, it has at least given us the kick start to get the ball rolling.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause. We had a similar experience with our daughter. Ended up going private for her autism diagnosis as she was 16 years old and didn't want to wait forever. I hope you get to go private soon xx

The process for this itself is so stressful. Our child went through the Nelson Clinic privately a year ago and be prepared for a very inpersonal approach online! "Due to covid (seriously???) they could not see anyone in person. Hopefully this has changed and your experience is less stress! I almost needed a phycologist just to get me through the b/s system!
