Help my Mama Bening fight her way out of ICU after a brain aneurysm and stroke.
Auckland
In the early hours of July 14 2022, my grandmother, Benita ‘Bening’ Landicho, was rushed to a hospital in the Philippines after being found unconscious.
She has been diagnosed with both a brain aneurysm and stroke.
Following this diagnosis, she has undergone three surgeries: endovascular coiling, tracheostomy and gastrostomy. Despite these efforts, my Mama Bening remains in the ICU, reliant on a ventilator.
Today, July 27 2022, marks her 14th day in ICU.
Growing up, I’ve always known that it was because of my grandparents’ love, selflessness, hard work and dedication that my parents were able to raise me in New Zealand - a country where high quality healthcare is a mixture of free and subsidised services.
Unfortunately, this is not the case in the Philippines. With your help, we will continue to fund my Mama Bening’s battle.
Benita is my grandmother.
The money will be spent on my grandmother’s outstanding medical bill (currently 1.3 million PHP equivalent to 37500 NZD) and any other ongoing costs.
Removal of the ventilator 30 July 2022
When I think of my Mama Bening, I think sacrifice, selflessness, relentless love and unfathomable resilience.
Today, the ventilator has been removed and doctors have announced that she’s ready to move out of the ICU into a normal hospital room with a full time caregiver.
We know this is only the beginning of a long road to recovery and my family and I need your support now more than ever.
We are moved, emotional and overwhelmingly grateful for everyone’s love and support so far. Thank you all so much 🤍
