Supporting my mum through two critical brain surgeries and overwhelming medical costs.
Johnsonville, Wellington
My name is Sreekanth. I live and work in New Zealand, and I am reaching out during one of the most difficult times my family has ever faced.
On 9 March, my mother was admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad, India, after being diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. She underwent a critical and complex surgery involving a specialised device known as a flow diverter. The total cost of the procedure was approximately NZD 50,000. Unfortunately, our insurance claim was declined as the condition was classified as pre‑existing.
Although my mother initially recovered and was discharged on 18 March, within 10 hours she became unconscious and had to be rushed back to hospital. Doctors discovered severe brain oedema and were forced to perform an emergency decompressive craniectomy to save her life. This second surgery is estimated to cost a further NZD 60,000.
My mother is currently unresponsive in the INCU and we are taking each day as it comes. This situation has been emotionally devastating, and the financial burden has been overwhelming. I have exhausted all my personal savings trying to cover the medical costs. I am based in New Zealand, where I live and work, and this is where my support network is. I am humbly seeking help during this unexpected crisis.
Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to my family. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
The funds raised will be used to cover hospital bills, surgery costs, ICU care, specialist fees, medications, and related medical expenses from my mother’s ongoing treatment .
