Our beautiful dog Nala suddenly collapsed and became paralysed, she urgently needs spinal surgery to give her the chance to walk again

Our Beautiful Girl Needs Urgent Spinal Surgery

While out on a walk, our sweet dog Nala suddenly collapsed to the ground screaming in pain. Within seconds, she lost the ability to use her back legs and became paralysed from the waist down. It was terrifying and completely unexpected. We rushed her straight to the emergency vet, where she has now been hospitalised for two nights.

The vets strongly suspect a ruptured spinal disc (IVDD) that has damaged her spinal cord. Nala is currently unable to move or urinate on her own.

To give Nala the best chance of walking again, she urgently needs to be transferred to a specialist for an MRI scan and spinal cord surgery. Time is critical. The sooner this surgery is performed, the better her chances of regaining movement and quality of life.

Unfortunately, the cost of advanced imaging, specialist care, surgery, and recovery is overwhelming. Between emergency care, hospitalisation, MRI, surgery, medications, and rehabilitation, the total cost is far beyond what we can manage on our own — especially with everything happening so suddenly.

Nala is more than just a dog. She is family. She is gentle, loving, and full of personality. Shes only 3 and has so much life left to live

We are doing absolutely everything we can for her, and asking for help is not easy — but any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward giving Nala the chance to stand, walk, and run again.

If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page means the world to us❤️

Nala needs rehab  10 February 2026

In order to get Nalas spinal cord connecting to her nerves properly she needs rehabilitation such as physiotherapy, laser treatment, massages, hydrotherapy, and chiropractor. I’m currently pregnant and Nala is gonna be the best big sister, she’s so patient and gentle and loves baby’s. We are trying everything in our power to get her walking again so she can be the best sister possible. She would also love a wheelchair as all she wants to do is get up and play. She’s such a happy, active and energetic dog. We just need to get her circulation going and nerves reconnecting!! Cmon Naley!!

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
