Changing the lives of a Syrian refugee family, brining them to New Zealand
Christchurch, Canterbury
We need your help to bring a young refugee family (my interpreter, her husband and their four year old daughter) to New Zealand.
I first met the family 9 years ago working a freelance journalist in the area and have been in touch since.
They live in terrible poverty in a desert camp near the Syrian border. It is too dangerous for them to return to Syria. This is an opportunity to change their lives and provide a real future for their daughter.
Several families I have met in the camp over the years have been deported to Syria, and we have real safety concerns for them in the long term.
They have worked tirelessly in the camp as volunteers for NGOs helping to improve others lives, but feel that life is getting too hard with difficulty getting enough food, limited medical facilities, poor education opportunities and constant security and safety risks.
The family arrive next month and we need help with expenses for accommodation, furniture and living costs on their arrival.
