Any donations will help me go through the stem cell therapy for the progressive systemic sclerolosis
Auckland
My name is Edward Okai and I have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease known as progressive systemic sclerosis. There is no cure for this disease and while many have tried to manage it with conventional medicine, the result is almost always a slow and severe decline in health as the organs begin to fail, and the body shuts down. This is an extremely painful process and currently, my symptoms prevent me from keeping a regular job and working on my thesis. The medication I have been prescribed are a band-aid solution and as the days pass, I am more often bound to my bed inflamed, exhausted and unable to eat.
The use of adult stem cell treatment has been proven to significantly improve the effects of progressive systemic sclerosis and can lead to a life where the pain and symptoms are manageable. This treatment does not come cheap and will require me travelling to Germany and the United States of America. The cost for this procedure ranges from US $80,000.00 to US $100,000. This does not include travel, accommodation or any other living costs. This treatment process spans over 4 months so any funds received beyond this amount will be used to sustain the everyday costs I will inevitably incur. My current insurance provider does not cover me for any of this so I am now on a mission to raise the funds myself with the help of family and friends.
Strangely, this diagnosis has almost come as welcome news for me. For 17 years I have visited countless doctors both here in New Zealand and in my home country Ghana. I presented many health issues such as duodenitis, gastritis, bladder problems, thyroidal glossal cyst and inflammation of the lymph nodes. Other symptoms I presented were dismissed as generic sicknesses to be treated with vitamins and paracetamol. I have undergone many medical procedures including a cystoscopy and two endoscopies. But still, after many years, the true cause of my sickness continued to evade me.
Now that finally I have this diagnosis, the journey of healing can begin and with your help, I am hopeful that this can happen. I am eager to put these sickness stricken years behind me. Granted that my health will allow me, my dream is to return to the University of Auckland and complete the PhD in Education that I have had to continuously put on hold due to my health. Then, my life can truly begin and I can give back to the communities that I am so passionate about.
Thank you all for your time and generosity.
