Help needed to fund Teina's treatment for rare cancer.
Eastbourne, Lower Hutt
Teina is a much-loved family member, wife and mum to two young beautiful children, colleague, teacher and friend to many. Early this year, Teina was diagnosed with a dermoid cyst. During surgery it was discovered it had turned into squamous cell carcinoma, a rare and very aggressive cancer. Teina underwent chemotherapy, however the cancer has doubled in size during her treatment. Surgery is not an option as it is now to attached to her bowels, bladder and other spots have appeared.
The last remaining treatment is immunotherapy. Immunotherapy for this cancer type is unfunded and not covered by medical insurance. The drug, Keytruda costs $10,000 per treatment. The total cost of initial therapy will be approximately $100,000.
Her compassion and generosity to others over the years highlight the amazing person she is. Teina, her husband Jayden and the children need your support. Every donation counts, no matter how big or small, and will be gratefully received.
Update: Teina's Dr wrote to PHARMAC for a special exemption and they will fund four rounds. This is not something they normally do.
From Teina, Jayden, Arty and Dani ~ The fight is still on. We don’t know what the future will hold, but what we do know is we have an absolute army of love behind us. We are so humbled and grateful for the immense generosity from family, friends and people we haven’t even met.
I am Teina's sister in law.
Unfortunately, the drug she needs - Keytruda - is not funded for this type of cancer. This means she has to self fund. The cost for one round is $10,000 plus administrative costs. The total cost of initial therapy will be approximately $100,000.
