Auckland
“My name is Olivia Montgomery, and this year I am running in the By Election for a position on the Auckland council as Howick ward Councillor. I am a candidate that stands quite different from the rest. As a 23-year old who comes from a community activist background, rather than a business owner, I want to bring a fresh face and new energy to the Auckland Council.
I intend to run a values and community based campaign with the welfare of Howick at the heart of everything I do. I want to bring transparency and inclusion to council level politics by raising the voices and concerns of those often marginalised from politics: young people, women, those with disabilities, people of colour and indigenous peoples. Inclusion is at the core of my campaign.
But running an independent campaign is very expensive and just getting a few billboards printed costs at least $700. So to even out the playing field at a council level I need your help and support which is why I am running this Fundraiser. All the money raised will go directly towards building my campaign. Much like my activism which includes fighting for a living wage for some of our most underpaid workers, and advocating for stronger mental health and addiction support services, I want my stand for local body council to be a community effort.
Even if you don’t live in the Howick ward, supporting me in my campaign would help break ground for other young people who come from underprivileged backgrounds, to run for local body council. So, if you’d like to see a young woman like me in council and you can afford to flick me a few dollars to back my campaign, I’d really appreciate it.
Thank you for your time and support.”
Olivia.
The money raised will be used on venue hire for events, the cost of printing for hand outs and to a few billboards. We have a goal of $700 to get 7 boards printed to get her name out there like the rest of the candidates
