Help Our Mother Lily Winkler Get Her Life Back After Stroke With Revolutionary Treatment

Our beloved mother Lily Winkler has been suffering for two years following a devastating stroke. Other than a few words, Lily can't speak. She can't move her right arm. She lives in a sea of pain with constant medication, and a care home existence.

Previously a vibrant, creative, adventurous, and hardworking woman, Lily is now handicapped. New Zealand doctors have little to offer for significant progress beyond her present plateau. However, through our research, we have found hope.

In Florida, at the Institute for Neurological Recovery (see links below) it is possible to have injections of Etanercept (an arthritis drug) into the back of her neck/spine, in conjunction with an inversion table. This novel treatment has provided dramatic relief for thousands of stroke victims.

We six children -in conjunction with other family and friends- are launching this appeal so that Lily can receive two etanercept treatments a week apart. The fundraising target is based on medical costs, flights for Lily and two support persons, and housing and food while in Florida. Any excess to target would be applied for a third treatment and additional support person. Besides give-a-little we are doing fair booths, sausage sizzles, art sales and selling used goods on facebook marketplace.
