Bay of Plenty

I applied for a live in role on a transition farm in the Waikite Valley August 2016. I had to send CV, police vetting and CYFs vetting forms and was offered the position which included a paid role in a fully furnished house on a 2.4 hectare farm where youth from youth justice would come to transition to independence. I gave 4 weeks notice on a full time permanent role for Barnardo's in Chch, sold my furniture, held viewings for the property as it was on a fixed term contract. Booked and paid for ferry crossing, accommodation and all expenses driving from Chch to Rotorua incurred. I arrived early hours of 17 Nov (Drove the day after Kaikoura earthquake) and moved out to the farm on or about the 23 Nov. I was never given a contract and discussions around wages/income always ended unresolved. I made it very clear that I resigned from a well paid permanent role to relocate to this role and due to the nature of the role a decent salary/wage is very much expected. I never received any wages or salary so had to resign as I had exhausted my savings and final pay with my personal HP's, and insurance plus using my money to.pay for extra food for myself and my daughter as well as running my personal vehicle when a youth finally came to live on the farm. Under no circumstances was I lead to believe that the role (specialist role may I add)/was to be an unpaid role. I have now become homeless, have no income and have so much shame around having had to sell my personal belongings to relocate to a role that forced me to live off my savings and final wage and to not receive an income the duration of my time there.

The role included my 7 year old daughter to live there as well so it is not just me but us who are

Use of funds

I will use the money to build a self sufficient tiny home to live in as there is a huge housing crisis and whist I am currently jobless I can't afford to rent a house nor am I likely to be chosen to be a tenant in my current financial situation

Tania, I'm sorry to hear that such a lovely hard-working woman has had to be faced with this. I wish that you get back on your feet as soon as possible and that things get better very soon. Thinking of you and Savannah, sending a big hug and lots of Aroha xx
