Pixi is able to smile again - more funds needed

With heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to Pixi’s fundraising, we’re pleased to share that she has now received her much-needed dental care at Town & Country Vets in Tasman. Pixi had two troublesome teeth removed, and while a third tooth may stabilise on its own, it will be reassessed in six months.

We didn’t reach our full target, so we will keep this page open a little longer in the hope of achieving it with the continued kindness of our supporters.

Pixi was incredibly brave for such a tiny pony, and her 2-year-old daughter, Nellie, stayed by her side throughout the entire experience.

We’ll be sharing a fuller update soon, but for now, this is a quick message of gratitude and reassurance. If anyone is able to help us reach the remaining goal, it would mean the world. Thank you again for your generosity and support.

What Pixi needs to smile again.

Pixi has been bred to be small. We all find petite things sweet and endearing; sadly, her teeth didn't get the memo. Pixi has had annual horse dentistry since she arrived at Hidden Valley Farm Sanctuary, due to her owner having terminal cancer and passing away. Her obvious problem was the rough edges on her teeth, which grab the food as she chews and pack it into her cheeks, just like a squirrel. This, in turn, creates bacteria as the food starts to rot. Her breath can be awful! The latest issue was discovered when a tooth in her crowded front teeth was loose, as well as trapping more food and decaying. The advice was to get the tooth removed. To remove the tooth requires surgery, which our vet (Town & Country Vets-Richmond) will do under anesthesia. This is a costly procedure that the sanctuary can not afford, and Pixi will rely on the generosity of other pony lovers. Follow her story.
