Preserve the history of Wellington Harbours' Shipwrecks 1840 - 2023 by helping to fund the building of the Wheelhouse Gallery
Wellington
After the success of our the Nautilus VR Submarine we are now building a Wheelhouse Gallery to exhibit Wellington's Shipping history, particularly shipwrecks in and around Wellington Harbour.
This experience will be free for everyone to enter, and all our research will be available to schools, Museums, Film Makers and researchers. We started with a list of 22 wrecks and now have identified over 100 wrecks from the past 180 years.
Wellington Harbour is rich with amazing stories of loss, rescues, and bravery. Research is being assisted by Wellington Maritime Friends, Roger Meecham, Researcher and others.
The exhibit will be housed within a steel wheelhouse recovered from a Nelson Fishing Trawler and will be fitted out to depict a Tramp Steamer with interesting props and touch screens. This is a professional build with help from film Set Builders, Techs and local companies.
The Wheelhouse Gallery will be situated at Seaview Marina, Port Road, Lower Hutt and will be open 10 am to 4 pm Wednesday to Sunday. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS PROJECT HAPPEN. THANK YOU
Funds are required to complete the fit-out of the Wheelhouse. The Project is to be completed by the September school holidays. All help is very appreciated.
