Help Prevent Drowning At North Piha

$2,960 donated
Given by 7 generous donors in around 12 months

The Lifeguard Service needs to raise the last $2,000,000 by July 31 to construct these vital lifeguard facilities at North Piha Beach

Auckland

We are rebuilding our home - after 70 years the clubhouse and the Lifeguard Tower, after 45 years, have done their dash in the harsh Piha environment.

North Piha Beach is recognised and one of New Zealand's most dangerous beaches and is less than 60 minutes drive away for 1.5 million Aucklanders.

Our volunteers provide some 5000 hours of service to the community each year from these facilities, just with patrolling the beach. Training, instructing and running this volunteer service would at least double those hours. The facilities are also used by the regionally managed paid lifeguard service, for a further 3000 hours per year.

The new buildings have been designed to be efficient and robust so that we can maintain our current services to the community for the next 70 years and beyond. The design allows for training and instruction to occur concurrently with and without interfering with, the patrolling function,

The education and accommodation facilities will be used outside patrolling times by schools and other organisations for leadership development, environmental and outdoor education programs.

To date club reserves, donations from local community members, Auckland Council, Foundation North and the Grassroots Foundation have contributed $2,500,000 towards the total $4,500,000 development cost.

We are seeking your help towards the other $2,000,000 required to complete this project so that we can maintain our services to the community.

Our current target is to have all funding in place by 31 July 2020, to enable the commencement of Construction.

About us

The United North Piha Lifeguard Service Inc. is a dedicated group of volunteer lifeguards who keep our community and visitors to North Piha, safe on the beach. We also develop junior guards (ages 7 - 14) with skills to become confident in the surf.

Use of funds

These funds are to cover the construction costs of the Building. The club has funded the design, engineering and consent costs for our development. Funds raised beyond the construction costs will be applied to ongoing maintenance of the facility.

United North Piha Surf Club is a wonderful community asset. Without it, thousands of people would not get the same enjoyment of the beach. Let's all give generously to keep the club and have a suitable building.
