Support Rachel to represent NZ in the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Portugal in July
Wellington
After 10 years as a competitive gymnast, Rachel decided to hang up her leotards after Nationals last year and focus on improving her running fitness for her other sports, especially Hockey and Orienteering. And now she's so excited to see the hard training sessions paying off: following top 3 placings in the recent Junior Orienteering Nationals, she's been selected to represent NZ at the Junior (U21) World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) in Portugal from 11-16 July.
Prior to JWOC, Rachel and the other young NZ team members will compete in the European Youth Orienteering Championships in Hungary from 2-4 July. The team will then travel to Portugal for a week of training and familiarising themselves with the Portuguese forests and mapping style, before competing in the individual JWOC Sprint, Middle and Long races and finishing with the team relays.
This is such an amazing opportunity for Rachel, but is unfunded, so we are trying to raise money to help cover the $7000 costs, and any donation will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

JWOC Urban Women's Relay - Rachel's best performance of the week 16 July 2022
The JWOC organisers pulled out all the stops and in just a few days, rustled up one final urban race for the JWOC competitors. This one, a 3 person (single sex) relay, so NZ had 2 out of the 49 teams in the Junior Girls' relay. Still in 40 degrees heat, Rachel ran her best race of the week gaining 6 places on 2nd leg for the NZ B team, and running the fastest time out of the Kiwi girls. Her 3rd leg runner pulled back another 6 places bringing the team home in 22nd position (1 place behind Australia A, 2 places ahead of NZ A and 3 places ahead of Australia B!)
So that's all for JWOC 2022 - certainly not the challenging forest orienteering she was selected for, and infinitely more suited to than the urban races they ended up running, but still, such an amazing experience with so much to learn from!
That's so very kind of you, thank you
Thank you Juneau, that's really kind of you
