Help Rae access life-saving cancer treatment!
Mount Maunganui, Tauranga
Rae; loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, is admired for her kindness and resilience. In December 2022, her world changed with a diagnosis of Myeloma—a rare, aggressive cancer affecting plasma cells in the bone marrow. This devastating news followed the discovery of a large tumour on her femur, leading to major surgery in early 2023.
After six months of chemotherapy, Rae tragically relapsed. Scans revealed multiple tumours, including one near her spinal cord, risking paralysis. She has since endured radiation therapy, ongoing chemo, and faces months of rehabilitation.
In a courageous decision, Rae is relocating to Australia to become eligible for 'Daratumumab', not funded in NZ. This move offers hope but comes with immense financial strain. Unable to work, Rae lives in constant pain, a weakened immune system, and vulnerability to fractures.
Throughout her life, Rae has advocated fiercely for others, dedicating her career to education and disability support. She also spent years fundraising for cancer and mental health causes. Now, deservedly, it’s her turn to receive support.
