Support elderly flood victim who has lost her home and all her possessions
Nationwide
My partners 74 year old mother lives alone in Australia and her house was destroyed in the Queensland floods recently. She lost virtually everything, her possessions, her car and the majority of her house. Unfortunately she wasn't insured as the cost of insurance is unaffordable when you are on a pension and live in a flood zone. This is the 2nd time in 5 years Thelma has gone through a major flooding event.
My partner is currently in Australia helping demo what can't be salvaged, which has involved clearing the house of all chattels, before removing the floor and other structural elements that can't be saved. Mud and sludge remains throughout the entire house. The kitchen is gone, everyday things we take for granted gone.... the house is unliveable.
Thelma will rebuild her home again, but we would like her to have options to future proof her house incase of extreme flooding events in the future. These options are available in Australia, but come at a high cost. Builders are having to come from Brisbane to do rebuilds and in the meantime Thelma will need to find alternative accommodation for the foreseeable future.
Any little bit will help support her to rebuild her home and her life, providing options other than rebuilding her house as it stands.
Continuous updates will be provided throughout this journey.
The beneficiary is my partners mother.
Architectural design and engineers to raise the house above flood levels. Building materials and labour to rebuild her home. Alternative accommodation during the rebuild.
Thelma's Flood Update - 27-3-2022 27 March 2022
Wow, a LOT has happened since we first put this Give a Little page up. The generosity of people is truely humbling. Thelma has support from some amazing people, friends and all of you amazing people who have donated and shared this page. Please continue to keep sharing... it's going to be a long road. We have uploaded some more recent photos. Thelma's house is now completely gutted down to the bones and rebuilding has begun. Without the amazing support of some people in Thelma's support network, we wouldn't have got this far so soon. Trades people are now extremely difficult to secure, as demand is so high and unfortunately there will always be people who try to take advantage of people in stressful situations such as this. Cowboy builders are appearing and deciphering the good from the bad is not always easy. Thelma has secured an amazing builder from Brisbane who has already kicked off the renovations.
Please see updated photos.
Please, if you have intended to donate, but forgotten, now would be amazing! Every cent counts - even if it's $1. We are truly humbled by the generosity of those who have donated already... you are all amazing and thank you so much.
If you can please SHARE this with your networks, as far and wide as possible - your work colleagues, your Facebook pages, Instagram and any other social network platform - we would be so appreciative.
Stay tuned for further updates and thank you all once again xxx
