Help Replace Our Stolen Laptop & Rebuild After Burglary

$33 of $3,000 goal

A burglary stole our laptop and my wife’s glasses—both vital for job hunting and daily life.

Albany, Auckland

Last night, my home in Auckland was broken into. I never imagined this could happen here — New Zealand felt like a peaceful sanctuary to me.

The thief forced open our gate and stole our laptop, which contained precious family photos spanning my son’s seven years and work projects I can never get back. Losing those memories breaks my heart every day — this is not for sympathy.

Since graduating a year ago, I’ve struggled to find a steady job. That laptop was my lifeline — the only tool to apply for jobs, complete technical interviews, and build a future. Without it, I feel stuck.

My son asked if his schoolwork and projects were stolen too. I couldn’t answer him. He used the laptop for his school assignments and entertainment, so losing it has deeply affected him. It’s heartbreaking to see him confused and upset, and this loss weighs heavily on us all.

We lost many belongings, but the laptop and my wife’s glasses are the most urgent to replace. She cannot drive without her glasses, and as I’m unemployed, her income is our only support. Losing her glasses has made life harder.

Unfortunately, we do not have any insurance to cover the stolen items. With the high cost of living in Auckland and no job, replacing these essentials feels impossible. I’m asking for help to buy a new laptop, replace glasses, improve security, and rebuild.

Any donation, no matter how small, or sharing this story means the world to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and support.

Winter is cold, but kindness is warmer  14 August 2025

The past few days have been incredibly hard. Our family was already in despair, and my only hope was to find a job. Now, even that small light feels gone.

Just today, when we tried to get my wife’s glasses replaced, we were told that in New Zealand they have to be shipped from Australia — it will take two weeks. That means the only income earner in our family will barely be able to work for the next two weeks.

My post asking for help in our Albany community group is still stuck in pending review, so it cannot reach the people around us. My wife has been quietly crying in the bedroom, and I feel powerless to help her.

Yesterday, we received a $30 donation from an anonymous supporter. It may seem small, but in this cold winter it felt like a ray of warmth. I am deeply, deeply grateful.

Ironically, our son’s mood seems to have improved faster than ours. Sometimes, in times like this, children seem stronger than adults.
