Please help support me to finish the second year of my Masters in Orchestral Performance at the Manhattan School of Music!
Wellington
My name is Sarah and I have just completed the first year of my two year masters at the Manhattan School of Music in New York! This has been a life changing experience; getting to experience high quality music making in such an artistically invigorating city has been indescribable and I am extremely excited for my final year.
I have been fortunate to study under Colin Williams, Associate Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic, as part of MSM's Orchestral Performance Program. During my first year of study I took advantage of as many opportunities as I could. I have had the opportunity to work with MSM's incredible faculty consisting of professional trombonists from around New York including George Curran of the New York Philharmonic and trombone legend Dave Taylor as well as getting to perform frequently in orchestra concerts, chamber music concerts, and masterclasses. I have also been lucky enough to have participated in the Southeast Trombone Symposium and had the opportunity to watch the New York Phil at the Bravo Vail Festival.
I am excited to continue my studies at MSM and to have more stimulating musical experiences. My first year has helped me grow so much as a musician and has afforded me a wealth of knowledge and experiences. My goal is to have a career as an orchestral trombonist and so being a part of this program has been invaluable in preparing me for my future. Any support you can give to help me finish my degree would be greatly appreciated.
Funds raised will go towards tuition and course costs for my second year of study.
December Update! 12 December 2023
Hello everyone! It's the last week of semester 1 and just wanted to thank you all for your support! Truly grateful to have such caring and supportive people around me who are encouraging of my studies.
It's been super busy this semester. I've not only been busy with school but have also done some cool things outside of MSM. In September I performed in David Geffen Hall for a premiere of a large scale Korean work for Choir and Orchestra. I've also been rehearsing with the Juilliard trombone choir and am excited to perform with them three times this week, two of these performances are before the New York Philharmonic's Holiday Brass concerts.
MSM has been awesome. Some highlights for me have been performing Sibelius 2 and continuing to work with the amazing faculty here. My continued work with Colin is great and I feel I'm learning a lot.
I'm looking forward to a restful holiday period and hopefully I'll be able to catch up with some of you whether in person or from afar! Thank you all again, I hope you all have a relaxing holiday. Arohanui ki a koutou
