Sarah is a Metastatic Breast Cancer sufferer and needs help funding treatment to prolong her life.
Auckland
Sarah’s a mum to 2 beautiful teenage daughters, a sister to 5 siblings, a niece, a cousin, an aunt and great aunt, a daughter, a partner and a friend.
She’s also been living with cancer for over 6 years. It started out while she was living in Brisbane with the discovery of a lump which she underwent a mastectomy, chemo and radiation treatments for. As a family we moved her back to NZ so we could take care of her and support her and her girls and partner through her illness.
Although just over a year later she was given the all clear the cancer returned in the form of a mass on her chest affecting her breathing and vocal chords. She has had chemo and radiation treatments on and off since and last October developed a brain tumour which was discovered early enough to be surgecially removed.
As her cancer progresses the funded options available have become less effective. Sarah needs help with treatments, particularly Kadcyla, a drug not yet funded by Pharmac in NZ, that can prolong the lives of Metastatic Breast Cancer sufferers like her. At $10,000 a month she can’t afford this drug herself, a position that most people find themselves in.
She’s a pretty amazing person who despite everything is determined to fight and be around for her girls for as long as possible at a time when they really need her. She wants time to be able to create memories with them that are more than just hospital rooms, treatments and being too sick to be there as a mum.
It would mean a huge amount to both her and our family if you’re able to donate what you can to help.
Thanks you, from Sarah and our family to you 💕
I’m Sarah’s sister. I want to help because we can’t do this alone and her girls need her in their life for as long as possible. Even if Pharmac go ahead with funding for the treatment she needs it’s unlikely to be backdated for existing sufferers.
Sarah will use these donations for non funded cancer treatments she isn’t able to afford herself.
Any additional money will go to supporting Sarah and her family when treatment is no longer an option.
