quick update 9/12/24 ❤️… currently at the Philippine Heart Center again. Just arrived in Manila Yesterday noon.

Carlos’ cardiologist and surgeon had a meeting last week after Carlos’ echo and ECG. It’s quite a complicated situation as explained by the surgeon. Carlos’ current valve which he got when he was 19 months is a size 16mm. right now the valve is worn out and needs replacement. However the only size that could fit in Carlos’ heart is a size 16mm and eventually he will outgrow this size in a year or 2. Which means they would need to do another operation again in a year’s time and replace the valve with the next available one which is a size 18mm.

I did ask the doctor if they are able to put in a size 18mm instead. unfortunately Carlos is too small for it :( They are trying, as much as possible, to lessen the number of open heart surgeries that Carlos will go through since he’s had 3 already. And if they can find a way to extend his 4th one, they will.

I was given a quotatiom for the cath, ct angio and open heart surgery that’ll happen here in Philippine Heart center. this is a surgical package deal which means we have to pay full amount before it can get booked.

Thank you for all your support and prayers for our dear son Carlos. Please continue to say a little prayer for him and for the Doctors that they may be guided with the best plan for his heart.

a quick update❤️… We’re in Philippine Heart Center right now and we just had a meeting with the department head of cardiolody. No schedule yet for Carlos’ open heart surgery since his cardiologist wants a complete visualization of Carlos’ heart. This will be his 4th open heart surgery and they want to be as thorough as possible. We’re set to get another 2DECHO tomorrow and meet with Carlos’ surgeon right after. Then plans for cardiac cath and cardiac CT angiogram will be set end of the month which means we have to fly back here and get admitted for around a week since both procedures require patient admission. After which then we’ll be able to set a schedule for the open heart surgery.

This is good news for us since Philippine heart center requires full payment before a schedule can be set for sugery. which means we have at least another month to raise the funds needed.

Please continue to pray for my son. and please continue to share Carlos’ story to your friends, family and network. A little amount can go a long way for our heart warrior’s future. Thank you so much.

  • Carlos’ update

Currently Carlos’ heart is showing strains from the high pressure. He is ok for now, asymptomatic, goes to his therapy sessions and SPED classes daily. However we have notice that he gets tired sometimes and refused to walk. we have always attributed this with his ASD but now it all make sense why, and that his heart is working harder this time.

As per his Cardiologist, his Pulmonary valve is now too small for him (he got it when he was only 19 months old and he’s 6 now) and the longer we postpone the surgery, the worse his heart is going to get. We have been monitoring Carlos’ heart since April every 2 months with medications hoping to get extra time. However last August 13, 2024, we were given the sad news that medications were not working anymore and that he needs this surgery ASAP. This would be his 4th open heart surgery, and it never gets easy.

We will be flying to Manila first week of Sept as it’s the earliest schedule available. There, we will meet with the department head of cardiology. She’ll check Carlos to know what necessary repairs need to be done during surgery and have a meeting with the surgeon. And once we have secured enough down payment we will be able to schedule Carlos’ surgery by then.

Please continue to share Carlos’ story to your friends, family and network. a little amount can go a long way for our hear warrior’s future. Thank you so much ❤️
