We, his parents, have set up this Little Heart Warrior Campaign to raise for Carlos’ life-saving, open-heart surgery.
Christchurch, Canterbury
From the moment he was born, Carlos has been battling a rare heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF).
On April 13, 2018 our son was rushed to his first open-heart surgery when he was just one month old. Four more major surgeries would follow before he reached five months.
Fortunate that our new home of New Zealand provided us with much-needed financial and medical support, enabling us to focus on caring for Baby Carlos.
Unfortunately, our time in New Zealand wouldn’t last, since Carlos’ unique condition disqualified us from a permanent residency. During pandemic, our family was forced to return to our home in the Philippines.
Shortly after returning home, Carlos was diagnosed with Level 3 autism. He has to face life with even more challenges such as speech problems and learning disabilities. But despite our best efforts, there is only so much we can do when healthcare is so limited here in Cebu City, Philippines.
We are now facing another great battle ahead, Carlos needs his 4th open heart surgery to prevent heart failure. To do so, we need to raise NZD 45,000 for his surgery.
We are knocking on the door of your heart to save the life of Carlos. Your generosity will not only provide financial assistance but also serve as a beacon of hope for our family. Please consider donating and sharing our campaign with your friends, family, and networks.
He is my Godson. He was born in Auckland and his family used to live in Southland. However due to his condition they were forced to go back their country
For Carlos’ 4th open heart surgery, in the Philippines
update September 12, 2024 12 September 2024
quick update 9/12/24 ❤️… currently at the Philippine Heart Center again. Just arrived in Manila Yesterday noon.
Carlos’ cardiologist and surgeon had a meeting last week after Carlos’ echo and ECG. It’s quite a complicated situation as explained by the surgeon. Carlos’ current valve which he got when he was 19 months is a size 16mm. right now the valve is worn out and needs replacement. However the only size that could fit in Carlos’ heart is a size 16mm and eventually he will outgrow this size in a year or 2. Which means they would need to do another operation again in a year’s time and replace the valve with the next available one which is a size 18mm.
I did ask the doctor if they are able to put in a size 18mm instead. unfortunately Carlos is too small for it :( They are trying, as much as possible, to lessen the number of open heart surgeries that Carlos will go through since he’s had 3 already. And if they can find a way to extend his 4th one, they will.
I was given a quotatiom for the cath, ct angio and open heart surgery that’ll happen here in Philippine Heart center. this is a surgical package deal which means we have to pay full amount before it can get booked.
Thank you for all your support and prayers for our dear son Carlos. Please continue to say a little prayer for him and for the Doctors that they may be guided with the best plan for his heart.
