Help Save Katalina’s Sight and Life

Katalina Sokiveta is a bright and gentle 13-year-old girl whose world is getting darker much too soon. A rapidly growing tumour in her brain is threatening to take away her sight completely — and without urgent surgery, her blindness will become irreversible.

Katalina’s condition has worsened quickly. She has already lost her ability to eat and swallow on her own, and doctors have advised that she needs immediate surgery and specialist care. Sadly, this life-saving surgery and monitoring cannot be performed in Fiji. Katalina has been given the opportunity to undergo surgery and receive the care she needs at Starship Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. The estimated cost for her surgery and hospital care is NZ$90,000.

Katalina’s journey has already been marked by deep loss. She lost her mum in 2017 and is now lovingly cared for by her aunt, who is also raising Katalina’s younger siblings. Despite the challenges, Katalina remains a brave and kind-hearted girl who still dreams of seeing the world clearly again — of seeing her family’s faces and the world.
