Help Shane through his Cancer journey ahead!
Auckland
THIS PAGE WAS CREATED TO SUPPORT MY DAD SHANE THROUGH HIS CANCER JOURNEY.
Everyone who knows Shane can share in recognising him as a truly selfless and caring individual. This recognition is shared by his adored wife Heather and two children Michael and Janelle, to which he is an amazing father.
Shane was diagnosed with melanoma cancer a few weeks prior to Christmas in 2015. He fought hard with his relentless positivity and humor, and won this battle as a result. This left Shane with a bit of an accessory on the top of his head which he likes to refer to as his ‘cup holder’ (shown in the picture above).
However on the 29th of November of this year, his birthday, Shane was given the devastating news that he had another battle with cancer ahead of him. A battle that is going to be much harder to fight, requiring more love and support than ever. After a lump was removed from his head on Monday the 27th of November, Shane’s specialist found cancer cells lying beneath it. He as a result of this had to have a PET scan to reveal to state and extent of his cancer. This brought hard news, with the scan showing the cancer had gotten into Shane’s skull, liver and in two locations in his back (one of these locations in close proximity to his spine, having caused a small crack to make things worse).
Of what we know so far, the action plan for the near future is intensive radiation therapy, followed by starting the medication Keytruda (pembrolizumab); a tablet that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. We are crossing our fingers and hoping that this kills the cancer cells through Shane’s body, and that he will be back to his happy, healthy self again soon!
This page has been created to raise money to toward covering the funds for Shane’s challenging journey ahead. Currently, he has been receiving treatment both privately and publically which comes at a cost. It would be amazing to have extra monetary support, so we can all focus on helping Shane fight this thing, without the added pressure of financial stresses. In between treatments, Shane will require more scans, prescriptions etc.., which will keep popping up. As a family, we have decided that if the money generously donated goes beyond what we need, the excess will be donated to a cancer focussed charity to continue the support to other families in similar situations and prevention of cancer in our country.
Help my Dad fight Melanoma!
