Plunket is closing down the Karori Plunket creche and has taken $50,000 of community funds. Please help us pay for a legal challenge.
Nationwide
Very sadly Plunket is closing down the Karori Plunket creche.
As well as closing the creche without warning or consultation, Plunket has taken $50,000 of community funds from the creche bank account. We think Plunket will likely sell the site and take that money too.
But this is not just happening in Karori, Plunket is doing this to other communities.

Many people who have seen the media coverage are appalled at Plunket's bulldozing tactics and are disappointed Plunket seems to have drifted far from the values instilled in it by its founders.
The Karori community fundraised to buy the site of the creche in 1939, fundraised again to build the rooms in 1946 and over the last 80 years has continued to fundraise and spend countless hours volunteering to maintain the property on behalf of the community. Generations of Karori families have used the creche and it (and the awesome teachers) is a valued community treasure.
Please help us keep the creche open and call for Plunket to gift this site back to the community!
We need your donations to help our group of concerned parents pay for a legal challenge to Plunket's actions. Our challenge is just the first step in a wider challenge on behalf of all affected communities so your donation will benefit not only the Karori community, but others too.
Thank you for your support.
Donations will be spent on hiring a lawyer to challenge Plunket's actions. Any money raised over the cost of our legal fees will be donated to bellyful.org.nz.
We did it! 22 April 2018
A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us. We wholeheartedly appreciate all contributions - you helped pay for legal advice that ensured Plunket will now meet its legal obligation to consult with the Karori community.
Things in Karori are about to change for the better, for all current and future Karori children.
PROPER CONSULTATION has been at the heart of the issue from the very start. Informed decisions should be made based on input from the people affected by those decisions. It's simply showing respect for the community, the families and the children who need the creche.
We don't think it's unreasonable to expect any organisation operating in our community to act with integrity - especially one like Plunket. After all it was the people of Karori who funded and built the Plunket buildings at 277 Karori Road starting in the 1940s. Our elders, our neighbours, our whanau, our community.
Thanks to your awesome contribution and a lot of hard work, Plunket have confirmed the following for Karori:
* Proper consultation will be done
* A review of all their services including the crèche will occur
* The property at 277 Karori Road will not be sold
* An interim childcare services plan has been presented to existing parents
* ECE demand and supply will be investigated
