We’re Stuart and Doris both hard of hearing, seeking help to afford hearing aids so we can stay connected to each other and our world.
Pukekohe, Auckland
Kia ora, we’re Stuart and Doris Hughey from Pukekohe, and we are both deaf in one ear and can't hear much in the other.
For years we’ve learned to navigate life in near‑silence — guessing our way through conversations and relying on each other to fill in the gaps. We’ve always managed, but in the last few years it has become harder. We miss important information, we avoid social situations, and even simple conversations take huge effort. The world feels smaller and quieter than it should.
Modern AI hearing aids would change everything for us. They would help us stay connected to our whānau, participate in our community, and communicate with confidence again. But even with the government subsidy, the cost of two sets of hearing aids is far beyond what we can afford. We’ve explored every funding option available to us, and now we’re humbly asking for help.
Your support will go directly toward two sets of hearing aids and the fittings we need to use them properly. Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to hearing each other’s voices clearly again and living with independence and dignity.
Thank you for reading our story and thank you for helping us take this step toward hearing the world again.
Could you please share our story with others on the hope they may be able to assist us as well.
Ngā mihi nui,
Stuart & Doris Hughey
All funds raised will go towards two sets of AI hearing aids, one set for each of us.
