Helping baby Alice, who is battling a severe brain injury, and her devoted parents cherish every moment and face the hard days ahead.
Huapai, Kumeu
On 15 May 2025, Steve and Harriet’s world changed forever. Their beautiful daughter Alice was born, and within hours, they were told she had Severe HIE — a catastrophic brain injury from lack of oxygen at birth. Doctors could not promise she would survive.
For over three months, Alice has lived in NICU, fighting through seizures, breathing struggles, endless tests, and 24/7 care. Harriet has spent every single day and night by her side, coming home only once — for just six hours — since Alice was born. Steve juggles caring for their two little girls, Maeve (4) and Grace (2), travelling to the hospital, and holding life together, all without any immediate family in New Zealand.
Alice’s future is uncertain, but the truth is clear — this family needs help right now. Donations will cover hospital travel, childcare, home support, medical equipment, and, most importantly, time together as a family — making memories at the zoo, at the park, or simply cuddled on the couch, for however long they have.
Every moment with Alice is a gift. Your support could mean the difference between a family drowning in worry and a family able to hold their daughter close, focus on love, and make every precious moment count.
Majority of the funds will be spent on day to day needs, like cleaning, cooking and childcare so the family can spend what ever time they have left, together.
Please, if you can, be part of Alice’s story today.
With lots of Love

I’ve worked with Steve in both directions — as each other’s boss and as very close friends — for almost 10 years. I know his family well, and after all the support he’s given me in tough times, I want to do everything I can to help them through this one.
Funds will help cover hospital travel, childcare, home support, medical equipment, and precious family outings, giving Alice’s parents the chance to focus on loving her and making memories together while facing the challenges of her severe brain injury.
Update to Support the Sherwood Family & Create Precious Memories with Alice 26 August 2025
Alice came home from hospital last Tuesday, and the transition has been overwhelming. Caring for her is 24/7, leaving the family exhausted, with no relatives in NZ to help. Maeve and Grace often wake at night worried about Mum, and even the dogs add to the workload. Alice is still recovering from a Rhino Virus caught in hospital, under the care of palliative specialists.
To mark Alice’s 100 days, the family plans a joint celebration with Maeve and Grace’s birthdays—a special moment to treasure. The reality is tough: Alice’s life will likely be short, but Steve and Harriet are determined to create lasting memories together around Auckland.
This Givealittle aims to free their time from household pressures so they can focus on Alice and the girls.
