Jasper Robertson, ex Navy and ex Coastguard Volunteer, lost everything in a house fire. Please help him to get his life set up again.
Auckland
Jasper Robertson has just turned 80. A few weeks ago his life was turned upside down when he was left standing outside a burning house with nothing but his shorts, his watch and his loyal dog Rose.
Jasper is resilient and has determinedly gone about rebuilding his life. He managed to buy a small car to replace his one lost in the fire. He spent the first few nights after the fire sleeping in the back of the car. He is moving into a rented cottage on a farm later this month.
The last few weeks have been a test of Jasper's determination and independence, but he is focused on restarting his life.
What savings he had have been used for the bare minimum essentials, and there was no insurance.
Jasper served for many years in the RNZ Navy. In his retirement from the Navy he has also been a Coastguard Rescue Vessel Crew member, an overnight Coastguard radio operator. Jasper also drove around the country relocating boats (on a trailer!) for Coastguard. He has written news letters for Coastguard plus a myriad of other contributions. He owned a boat (Maroro) and would regularly volunteer to be a a search target during SAR Training.
Jasper is an all round Good bugger, and it would be appreciated if you could donate a bit to help him get back on his feet so he can enjoy his twilight years with his dog Rose.
I am a Coastguard Volunteer and Jasper was on my crew for several years.
The money raised will be to help Jasper set himself up again. Furniture, clothes, a freezer and other appliances. A desk, some chairs and all the other things we take for granted. Any money not used now will help Jasper rebuild his modest life savings.
